A few “Melissa Ways” to use Ginger –
Put 1-2 drop of ginger oil in hot water to make intstant warming ginger tea! Great for warming a “Chilled Body”, when you have a cold, if you have poor circulation, or if you are not digesting quickly enough (ginger moves stagnation in TCM).
Add 1-2 drops of each of ginger to 10oz of warm or hot water with 3 or 4 other oils of your choice. Choose from Lemon or Lemongrass, Lime or Peppermint, or Cardamom or Cinnamon Bark, Rosemary Cineol, sweet Orange, etc.. to make a more complex tea. All of these are nice digestive aids so sipping on your essential oil tea will act as a “carminative” (aid digestion, helping to absorb nutrients and the eliminate gas.
Ginger is used in France often for chemotherapy-induced nausea where both digestive toning and emotional strength are needed. Both drinking Ginger tea with the fresh root and 1 drop of the essential oil. Also, try inhaling on a cloth, 5 drops of our mental clarity, with 1-2 drops of Fresh Ginger essential oil.
Make a ginger oil or ginger lotion to put on cold hands or feet for instant warming. Add as needed (start with 2-5 drops) of ginger essentail oil per 1/4 cup lotion or oil. Add more as needed for desired effect. Try your formulas on the inner arm first to see if you have any sensitivites if you are a light competed peroson or you have sensitive skin.
Add a few drops to body scrubs or moistuizers for a warming boost to the circulation.
A fine Body Scrub that Is my go-to for warming up in the winter and getting off alot of dead skin cells is this;
Warming Citrus / Ginger Scrub

Add a drop or 2 to ice cream, candies, chocolates, granola, stir frys or any homemade dish you would use ginger spice in. An easy and fun way to try this is put 1 square of dark chocolae in one hand and put a drop of ginger oil on your pointer finger – rub the drop on the med – large square of chocolate and boom! a mouthwatering ginger chocolate explotion in the mouth leaving yummy ginger breath!
Add 2 drops per cups of vanilla ice cream to “warm” it up energetically and to make your own japanese ginger ice cream. To make the true
traditional Japanese Ginger Ice Cream
1.First, get a small or 1 to 11/2 cup sized bowl (I prefer a white porcelain bowl) and pour in 2-5 drops of Melissa’s Botanicals Ginger Essential oil.
2. Now, dip your finger into the ginger oil and line the sides of the bottom of your bowl with your fingerfull of ginger oil – this will help distribute the oil evenly all over the ice cream in the next steps.
3. grab a pint of Haggen Das Vanilla Ice Cream and put 1 full cup of vanilla ice cream in a bowl.
4. Cut up 1/2 cup of candied ginger into super small chuncks
5. add them to your slighly melted vanilla ice cream (add enough where there is like 1-2 small chunks per bite)
6. fold in the ginger peices and do not stir well – it will turn soupy too quickly sometimes.
Now, if it is too soupy – put it back in the freezer for desired hardness. If it is perfect for you, then you are ready to eat –
you can also add a drop or two of lemon, cardamom, or Rose Otto to your mix. Single or as a mixture. Just add 1 drop, stir lightly or fold in. -taste – add another drop if you want it stronger. 1 drop goes a really long way, so always blend slowly!!
Put 4 drops of Ginger on a small cloth or tissue and smell for Sea sickness, Pregnancy nausea, General Nausea, Hangovers, etc.. Place the ginger on the cloth only – if that doesn’t help – add the peppermint and/or Lemon. If that does not do it, start over with just Lemon, if that doesn’t do it start over with just Perppermint.
The oils used as anti-nausea drugs are Ginger, Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint, Cardamom.
Just start trying singles or combinations. Nausea can be very frustrating and intolerable. Make sure you drink enough water during the day to stay hydrated which can cause nausea
Contraindications:
Cautions: Ginger Essential Oil can irritate sensitive skin. Avoid use during pregnancy, epilepsy, if you are under 12 years of age, and always avoid eye contact with Melissa’s Botanicals products.
If you are new to Essential Oils, always do a “patch test” on the inner arm and wait 24 – 48 hours to make sure you do not have reddness or any kind of irritation there on that part of the skin. If you do, please do not use the treatment and use extream causion when using essential oils in general. If you do have a reaction, Make sure to always practice the inner arm test before you use the essential oil single or product on the skin.
Do not use on “Hot” areas of concern such as red areas of the body or inflamed areas. Or if muscles feel very hot and bothered. Or if you have a static nerve that is bothering you – all of these are concidered “Heat” conditions in TCM.
Use Care if one has very sensitve skin, get red or “rashey” when someone applies an essential oil ointment like tiger balm or ben-gay and the skin changes or it is irritating to the skin. Discontinue use immediatly and use olive oil on a cloth to remove the essential oil.
